Are you a detail-oriented and organized professional with a keen interest in insurance and risk assessment? We are seeking an Underwriting Support Assistant to provide administrative and operational support to the underwriting team, ensuring the efficient processing of policies and accurate maintenance of records. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing and reviewing documentation, inputting and validating data, liaising with internal teams and brokers, and supporting the overall underwriting process. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and timely service delivery, as well as a proactive approach to supporting effective risk evaluation and portfolio management. JOB OVERVIEW: The Underwriting Support Assistant provides support to ensure that all functions are provided effectively to the underwriting team such that applications are processed within outlined service standards. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Case Management: · Manage the assignment of work to underwriters and follow up on cases exceeding the allowable timeframe. · Reassign work for underwriters on vacation. · Follow up and ensure that reviews, CMO sessions and reinsurance are assigned and completed in line with company timeframes. · To be knowledgeable of all company products and ensure that established departmental procedures (as set out in the Underwriting Procedures Manual and other reference guidelines) are strictly adhered. · Preparation and processing of Recall Letters · Ensure queries are responded and/or directed to the respective authority within the specified time period 2. Reinsurance: · Preparation of reinsurance cessions. · Follow up on Reinsurance cases to ensure processed within contractual timeframes and following up on cases exceeding this timeframe including escalation within department. 3. Substandard Processes: · Process Postponed/Declined applications. · Prepare and dispatch postponed and declined correspondence. · Request information from other companies, doctors, etc. · Prepare substandard reports for insurers. · Prepare and dispatch requests for medical test and information to medical professionals. 4. Reports: · Prepare and dispatch Inspection Report requests and follow up to ensure submitted within expected timelines. · Utilize the existing reporting to efficiently and effectively monitor and action reports so that applications within underwriting are processed within the established turnaround times. · Submit statistical information for use to Management, as required. 5. General: · Respond to queries to the department within the customer service standard timelines. 6. To perform any other duties as assigned by the Senior Underwriter/ Manager. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: · 5 CXC/CSEC passes including Mathematics, English Language · 2 A’ Level/CAPE passes · LOMA 280, 290, AS 100 and all related parts · 1 year work experience within the insurance industry or in a similar role · Knowledge of all company products ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required. PERSON SPECIFICATION: The Underwriting Support Assistant must be flexible, highly adaptive to changes in the organisation and possess excellent interpersonal skills, with a strong customer service focus. He/ She must be a very meticulous, organised and detail oriented individual. The individual must possess strong problem-solving skills and be able to make sound decisions.
