Our client, a leading aerospace manufacturer and defense contractor, is seeking an experienced Aviation Systems Safety Engineer for a fully remote position. This role offers the flexibility to work from any location within the US while supporting critical projects associated with our operations in Richmond, Virginia, US . You will be responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of complex aviation systems throughout their lifecycle, from design and development to testing, operation, and maintenance. Key duties include conducting hazard analyses, risk assessments, and failure mode and effects analyses (FMEA) for aircraft systems and components. You will develop and implement safety protocols, ensure compliance with aviation safety regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA), and contribute to the creation of safety management systems (SMS). The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. A Master's degree is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in aviation systems safety engineering is required. Proven experience with safety analysis tools and methodologies, such as ARP4761, DO-178C, and MIL-STD-882, is essential. Strong understanding of aircraft systems, avionics, and propulsion systems is highly advantageous. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are necessary for effectively collaborating with design engineers, test pilots, and regulatory authorities. You must be adept at working independently, managing complex safety programs, and producing comprehensive safety documentation.
