They are seeking an International Scholar Advising Specialist to provide advising support to international faculty, staff, and scholars on immigration and visa regulations, while contributing to initiatives that support the university's international community. Responsibilities Facilitate and process immigration document requests from university departments, staff, and scholars by serving as Alternate Responsible Officer for the University of Illinois J-1/J-2 program and preparing and filing petitions with the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services related to H-1B, TN, and E-3 visa applications Contribute to unit and University initiatives, procedures, and projects which support international faculty, staff, and scholars and department contacts (such as newsletters, webpage content, forms creation, committees, etc.) Advise university department contacts on processes and procedures related to obtaining and maintaining visa statuses for international faculty, staff, and scholars Advise international faculty, staff, and scholars on immigration and visa regulations, university procedures, and acclimation to the university and community environments Process the results of data extractions from the University database, ISSS database, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s SEVIS system. Identify faculty, staff, and scholars requiring specialized follow-up in order to maintain valid immigration status through departmental reporting or other University-related procedures to comply with federally-mandated reporting requirements Skills Bachelor's Degree One year in education, training, and/or work experience within international student or scholar affairs, or cultural experience while studying or working internationally Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to fulfill DSO and/or ARO duties Excellent communication skills, both oral and written Ability to focus on accuracy and exactness Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds Benefits Health Dental Vision Life Insurance Retirement Plan Paid time Off Tuition waivers for employees and dependents Company Overview The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is dedicated to building upon its tradition of excellence in education, research, public engagement and economic development.
