Job Description
I’m looking for an experienced instructional designer to translate a set of 6 training videos (approx. 10 mins each) into a highly engaging, face-to-face workshop for groups of up to 15 firefighters. This is not a content creation project. All content is already developed and approved, Policy manual can b provided with highlighted parts referenced as need to be included. The focus is on how the content is delivered live in person to adult firefighters Design a 60-90 minute minute, facilitator-led session built around: Scenario-based learning Group decision-making and discussion Movement and interaction (not classroom lecture) High engagement and retention The session should feel practical, fast-paced, and participant-driven, not slide-heavy or instructional. Context (Important) Content is based on existing approved training videos Videos are built around a single incident scenario (already structured) Content aligns to a policy update manual (key areas already identified) No scope creep – do not add new content or reinterpret policy All SME and client approval is already complete. What You’ll Be Doing 1. Workshop Design (Core Task) Translate the video content into a clear, structured live session, including: Scenario progression aligned to the existing storyline Decision points (e.g. “What would you do next?”) Group activities (e.g. small teams, debate, carousel exercises) Facilitated discussion moments Simple use of provided video clips where helpful (I can send to you) 2. Storyboard (First Deliverable) Within 7 days, provide a clear session storyboard for approval. This should outline: Flow of the 60-90 minute session Activities and timing Interaction points How the scenario unfolds Where (if at all) video is used This will be reviewed before moving to full development. 3. Final Deliverables Once approved, develop: a) Facilitator Presentation (PowerPoint) Clean, minimal slides Supports facilitation (not content-heavy) Uses provided/requested assets (video/images) b) Facilitator Guide (Essential) Clear, step-by-step delivery instructions Timing, prompts, expected responses “Plug and play” for delivery on the day c) Participant Materials Worksheets / prompt cards / activity sheets Simple, practical, aligned to activities Design Style (Very Important) This is not: A lecture A slide-heavy session A “tell them everything” approach This is: Scenario-led Discussion-driven Decision-based learning Participants doing most of the thinking Think: “What would you do?” “Defend your decision” “What are the risks here?” Constraints (Must Follow) No adding new theory or expanding scope All client/SME communication goes through me Keep it simple, practical, and deliverable in real life Assets Provided 6 completed training videos Supporting visuals and media Structured scenario backbone Ideal Candidate Strong experience in scenario-based learning Experience designing face-to-face workshops Visual Communication Design Comfortable working within tight content boundaries Can create clear, facilitator-friendly materials Bonus: experience with emergency services / high-risk environments Timeline Storyboard: 7 days Final delivery: agreed after storyboard approval
