Job Summary The purpose of the Graphic Designer position is to support SAMU operations by collaborating with staff and departments to conceptualize, create, ensure brand consistency and implement design solutions for both digital and print applications. Summary of Responsibilities Graphic Design – (80%) Create various kinds of digital and print marketing (internal and external), promotion and communications materials from concept to final artwork, developing design solutions for organizational needs. Prepare all files for print production and liaise with the print company representative Evaluate whether marketing collateral meets SAMU brand guidelines and will engage SAMU’s various audiences. Meeting and Project Planning – (15%) Collaborate with staff to develop the best solution for the project, providing them with advice, recommendations and answering questions where needed. Attend department meetings and keep abreast of all upcoming projects and campaigns. Attend various meetings with internal clients as needed to provide Creative Services consultations, including brainstorming and planning meetings. Manage assigned workload, including setting project timeline milestones and organizing all assets needed to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines. Other – (5%) Research professional development opportunities and maintain up-to-date knowledge of design technology and trends Consult and collaborate with other Creative Services team members on projects Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience A diploma or degree in visual communication, graphic design or related field 1-2 years of professional design experience with a portfolio Position Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of pre-press production and printing techniques Knowledge in both print design (posters, stickers, banners, brochures, handbills, etc) and designing for digital (websites, social media, digital signage, etc) Advanced knowledge in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop Strong knowledge of typography and colour theory Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Ability to work under tight timelines and adapt to changes in priorities Ability to process large volumes of work and meet deadlines with limited supervision Ability to work cooperatively Ability to process and implement constructive feedback Other Position Assets Skills in illustration Skills in photography Skills in motion graphics Working Considerations Sedentary – Sitting, Standing, Walking This position is a permanent work-from-home position with the requirement to come in for occasional meetings or project-related duties. SAMU supplies computer equipment. A proper working environment (desk, chair, wifi, etc) is the responsibility of the employee Terms of Employment This full-time position features full health and dental benefits, RRSP/TFSA contributions, and a great working environment. Regular work hours are between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Although rare, there are times when some weekend and evening work is required.
