Summary The Gas Turbine Applications Engineer is responsible for analyzing gas turbine components to assess performance limits, identify degradation, and determine operation capability and compatibility across varying conditions. Leverage field data and engineering expertise to diagnose issues, define repair or upgrade requirements, and develop solutions that improve efficiency reliability, output, and emissions. Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, service, and suppliers while also supporting sales efforts through technical proposals, feasibility studies, and customer-facing engagement. Support outages, validate performance improvements, deliver training, and ensure all solutions meet industry, safety, and quality standards. Primary Duties Technical Evaluation & Capability Assessment Analyze gas turbine components (compressors, combustors, turbines, rotors, blades, vanes) for performance limits, degradation, and operational capability. Analyze gas turbine components for understanding and of component interchangeability and compatibility based on operating conditions Review field data to identify performance gaps and root causes of component issues. Upgrade & Retrofit Engineering Analyze and propose upgrade solutions to improve efficiency, output, reliability, and emissions. Define scope and technical requirements for component repairs, redesigns or retrofits. Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and service teams to execute upgrades. Applications Engineering Support Provide technical support for sales proposals, including feasibility studies and performance guarantees. Customize solutions based on customer operating conditions and requirements. Prepare technical documentation, reports, and customer presentations. Customer Engagement Interface directly with customers to understand operational challenges and recommend solutions. Support outage planning, inspections, and post-upgrade performance validation. Deliver technical training and guidance. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with suppliers, product engineering, and field service teams to ensure alignment on upgrade strategies. Support new product introductions and continuous improvement initiatives. Compliance & Standards Ensure all engineering solutions meet industry standards, safety regulations, and company quality requirements. Working Relationships Works with the Engineered Performance team and reports up to the Engineered Performance Management. Does not have any direct reports. Compensation The initial compensation is $152,200 to $175,100 Job Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent. Preferred Education: Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Years of Experience: 10 years of experience in gas turbine engineering, applications engineering or component design. Strong knowledge of gas turbine systems, including thermodynamics, aerodynamics, and materials. Experience with turbine component capability assessments and upgrade/retrofit projects. Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ISO) Preferred Experience: Licenses/Certification: Software/Equipment Knowledge: Other Considerations: Able to manage time effectively while working under tight deadlines. Attention to detail and the ability to problem solve. Abley to analyze scenarios and make decisions. Able to interpret and communicate customer needs. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions This position may work remote, travel based on business needs. Fit for Duty All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program.
